Eyes up, heart open

Carla Ten Eyck

My most important job as your  photographer is to tell the story of your wedding day while making you and your family and friends comfortable.

I believe the more comfortable you are, the better your pictures will be. My typical client is a lover of photography, art and design. They are someone who has to have beautiful photographs. Someone who lets me do what I do best, and trusts my many years of experience in the industry. Whether you are the most camera-shy person or the biggest ham, there is no cookie-cutter approach to every client. I will get you comfortable in a way that is best for you.

Here you can view my most recent weddings, events and other fun sessions. Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable, I have been happily blogging since 2006, so there is all of the content to do a deep dive and see if I am the right fit for you and your event.

I pride myself on being a welcoming and inclusive photographer and human being and embrace everyone. I am so happy you are here to view my work, stay as long as you’d like and please feel free to leave a comment or share any posts! XO Carla Ten Eyck

meet my sister tere

This past week I took a vacation week to visit with my oldest sister Tere, who was up from Virginia to catch up with the clan. Tere is an incredible jewelry designer, in addition to be a super cool sister- be sure to check out her site – and see what she’s all about! She wanted to update her head shots on her site and so she decided to give her little sis a shot.
To cap off our visit we hit up a cemetery in Simsbury and the light was just perfect! Here are our the shots and Read More

carlos hernandez chavez, the artist and political activist

This week I had an opportunity to see something really incredible. In and of itself it was awesome- to watch a muralist in the final stages of their process- to see and hear their thought processes- which washes would go where, what tones they were hoping for, textures, overall feel. The kicker? I was watching my Dad create this masterpiece.

rob and jen urban engagement shoot

Last week, on one of our more beautiful days, Mike and I had our engagement shoot with my October couple, Rob and Jen. Now I say ‘my’ for the simple fact that Mike will not be technically shooting this wedding with me. He has the honor of being the best man in their wedding! Rob and Mike grew up together, and Rob was Mike’s best man at his wedding. Now all I have to say is watch out Rob, I am sure Mike will have some tricks up his sleeve! And I will be there to catch it all….

rediscover: childhood

I am making a concerted effort to be a little more well rounded, in more ways than just my portly physique. See, my husband Dave basically pointed out that I am pretty one-dimensional. No offense was taken, as that was not the intent of how it came about. But everything in my life revolves around photography. Everything. It’s always

kiira and james san francisco anniversary shoot

Yes. That’s how you spell her name!
Moving on…. Mike and I had the very very good fortune of having the opportunity to photograph Kiira and James all around San Francisco this past Easter Sunday. Let me start by saying that James is Mike’s cousin. So, I was expecting a kind of shy quiet guy. Can I tell you how wrong I was? Not only does this guy TALK, he makes me belly laugh with his crazy observations (not that Mike doesn’t mind you) but James is like a constant stream of consciousness way that kept me laughing my butt Read More

nicole and matias san francisco engagement shoot

UG! I have been staring at the screen for like 20 minutes and I don’t know where to start with this post!!! I’m just going to have a brain dump then…. Mike and I just got back from the most whirlwind trip to San Francisco late last night. My stomach still hurts from all of the laughing I did, and my calves? Well. That is a different story. Let’s just say that I am disabled. Or out of shape, is probably more accurate!
Our clients Nicole and Matias were just nuts. Let me rephrase that. Our FRIENDS Nicole and Matias Read More

Yesterday’s Ten Eyck Tuesday photography workshop was a real success, despite the freezing winds! One would think that the cold would keep us in the studio, but nooooo…. jaime and chris wedding at the saybrook point inn

This past Saturday Mike, Katie and I shot our gregarious bride of many faces… Miss Jaime and her now husband Mr. Chris Thurber! If there is a poster for a New England church it has GOT to be the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme… how pretty was this church?!! We capped off the day with a hoppin’ reception at the fabulous and newly renovated Saybrook Point Inn in Old Saybrook CT.

Here are our photographic adventures from the day, complete with commentary from yours truly…. of course!
