Carla Ten Eyck

Blog

My most important job as your  photographer is to tell the story of your wedding day while making you and your family and friends comfortable.

I believe the more comfortable you are, the better your pictures will be.

My typical client loves their family + friends over anything. Always, always. They value time spent together, and are able to appreciate the quieter moments in their relationships, that strung together, share a story of deep love.

They appreciate beautiful photography, art and design. Someone who lets me do what I do best, and trusts my many years of experience in the industry. Whether you are the most camera-shy person or the biggest ham, there is no cookie-cutter approach to every client.

I will get you comfortable in a way that is best for you.

Here you can view my most recent weddings, events and other fun sessions. Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable, I have been happily blogging since 2006, so there is all of the content to do a deep dive and see if I am the right fit for you and your event.

I pride myself on being a welcoming + inclusive photographer + human being and embrace everyone. I am so happy you are here to view my work, stay as long as you’d like and please feel free to leave a comment or share any posts! XO Carla Ten Eyck

family portrait beach session with carla ten eyck

Aren’t we all feeling a little wistful for summer? I know I am, as much as I love fall in New England, man do I!! But I feel like this summer just..happened! And POOF it’s done and gone…! This summer I had the joy of spending a late afternoon on the beach with a friend and colleague, Cheyney and her adorable family. I had photographed her sister-in-law’s wedding a while back and remembered how adorable I thought Cheyney’s children were… so to be able to have some one on one time with them was a blast! And at my Read More

Add to that their love of design and all things beautiful and Read More

Wedding at The Ocean House in Watch Hill with Carla Ten Eyck

One of the perks of traveling a lot is getting to see some pretty amazing places all over, many in the far corners of the world! But even better than that is when one of those amazing places is so close to home..! One of my favorite spa resorts  is The Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island… and any opportunity to photograph there is something I get so excited to do!
When Deb + Frank contacted me to photograph their wedding this summer I was over the moon… not only was it at one of my favorite places but Read More

Zeke and Po’s publicity shoot with Carla Ten Eyck

One of the things that I love is the ability to have just super open just flat out fun with my camera and my friends and their friends and for reasons other than fun but for actual, like REASONS! Take these two– Zeke and Po! Zeke is basketball legend Isaiah Thomas’ son and a breakthrough DJ paired up with Po, a reality TV star / singer who recently collaborated on a track called ‘Monsters (Be Brave)‘. So logically they needed some publicity shots of them together and when asked by my good friend Ed of Gorilla Records to do the Read More

Back to Basics Photography Workshop with Carla Ten Eyck

This September I dove back in to something I love second to photography: teaching photography! A long, long while back, I started teaching monthly workshops on a variety of topics ranging from the camera basics to lighting to posing to how to shoot details to the business of photography. There is so much to being a photographer. So much to even just doing this for fun, let alone as the main source of income for your family! There are so many ways to see, so many ways to interpret your subject and your idea and I just LOVE helping Read More

gershon fox marquee hartford wedding with carla ten eyck

Scott + Allie’s wedding at The Gershon Fox Room / Marquee Hartford this summer was something that I had been waiting a long time for…! A year before, I had conspired with Scott on their actual engagement… we secured a location (The Rose Garden in Elizabeth Park in Hartford!), timing, the plan for the day, all of it! It all went off without a hitch, everything was perfect! I felt so connected to them both during this entire process since I was there from the very beginning, and to tell you I couldn’t wait for their wedding was an Read More

Engagement Session at Yale New Haven CT

Any opportunity to do an engagement session at Yale in New Haven is always a YES for me!
Before leaving Yale for good and making their big move out west to the rolling mountains of Colorado, Christina and Nick wanted to say goodbye to their home and most importantly Yale before heading out. So we meandered around the Yale campus to places that meant something to them both- the dorms, all of the amazing secret hallways, the massive and gorgeous libraries that looked like movie sets, the massive halls… it was so much fun to explore this beautiful old Read More

downtown hartford elopement by carla ten eyck

Intimate, mid-week weddings seem to be my JAM this summer!! Not sure how or why… but I’ll take it!  There is something so…dare I say intimate..? ha ha about them! That I am only one of three people or less present at such a big day is something so special to me. The focus becomes so much more on the couple, their vows and the sheer act of getting married. Lauren and Patrick were married on their actual Anniversary of August 1 in a city they, and I, love to pieces.. downtown Hartford, CT. Hartford is one of the Read More

intimate summer woodland wedding by carla ten eyck

When I first met Lauryn and CJ, they showed up at my workshop to be my models for the day for a posing workshop I was teaching. I knew right from the start that they had something special together… the way they looked at each other, how kind and gentle they were with one another…it was so beautiful to watch! To add to this…? They were absolute magic in front of my camera! So comfortable, so relaxed… they just knew what to do! I offered little to no guidance- well, except for the fact that I was teaching an Read More

new photography workshops with carla ten eyck fall 2014

It feels weird to see how long of a hiatus I have take from teaching. After teaching for almost 7 years, every month straight! Especially when in the throes of teaching I am in my element- happy, alive, challenged, excited, electric, pumped, and just… at home. On some level my whole life I knew I wanted to teach, but never felt at home in a classroom. I hated the pressure of papers and tests and having to sit still! Although man I loved the smell of chalk on the chalk board! Except when it would squeak, then I didn’t enjoy Read More
