Carla Ten Eyck

Blog

My most important job as your  photographer is to tell the story of your wedding day while making you and your family and friends comfortable.

I believe the more comfortable you are, the better your pictures will be.

My typical client loves their family + friends over anything. Always, always. They value time spent together, and are able to appreciate the quieter moments in their relationships, that strung together, share a story of deep love.

They appreciate beautiful photography, art and design. Someone who lets me do what I do best, and trusts my many years of experience in the industry. Whether you are the most camera-shy person or the biggest ham, there is no cookie-cutter approach to every client.

I will get you comfortable in a way that is best for you.

Here you can view my most recent weddings, events and other fun sessions. Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable, I have been happily blogging since 2006, so there is all of the content to do a deep dive and see if I am the right fit for you and your event.

I pride myself on being a welcoming + inclusive photographer + human being and embrace everyone. I am so happy you are here to view my work, stay as long as you’d like and please feel free to leave a comment or share any posts! XO Carla Ten Eyck

artists for humanity wedding in boston with carla ten eyck and whim events

This blog post has been a long time coming! It was two years ago that Kristin + John tied the knot in Boston at one of the coolest venues I have worked at, The Artists for Humanity building in Boston. It is filled with character, gorgeous light and artwork for days and made just the most epic space for me to spend a day capturing the love that these two have for one another! Their event design was flawless and coordinated so many personal touches mixed with vibrant color! I loved discovering all of the little visual treats Kristin Read More

Glastonbury Boathouse Wedding with Carla Ten Eyck

Last fall, I had the pleasure of photographing Galini and Brian at Hartford City Hall on a crisp fall day, when the sun was still warm in the sky and the leaves were just starting to flutter elegantly to the ground. You can see their engagement post HERE! That afternoon I got to see first hand how kind and gentle they were with one another. I saw how respectful they were, and then how easily they could make the other laugh. Watching these interactions is always a special peek for me, and gives me something to look forward to Read More

I met Robyn + Richie through a mutual friend who we both adore, shortly before their wedding. They were getting married in the Hamptons and I just so happened to have their day available! Boom! It was a done deal before it was a done deal. They trusted our friend Kathleen to know we would be a fit, and man oh man was she right! Since their absolutely gorgeous and perfect wedding day, I have grown close to Robyn + Richie and have seen them many times since (even for Kathleen’s wedding a few months back) These two had Read More

Bee And Thistle Inn Wedding with Carla Ten Eyck

One of the best things when photographing weddings locally, is working with an amazing team of fellow creative partners. When I get a wedding at The Bee + Thistle Inn, in Old Lyme CT, I almost squeal with delight (OK, so maybe I did actually squeal, because come on. It’s amazing there!)
Not only is the property so pretty, but the people that run the day there (Hellerrrrrr Tosh, Jack, Jake and crew!) just make me smile, laugh and have the absolute best day. They are so kind to their clients, so attentive, so knowledgeable and five steps ahead Read More

I first met Kate years ago while shooting on Block Island- she had walked into my shot and I put my camera down to yell ‘HEY!’ (jokingly of course) and realized it was her and another CT photographer I knew! And on and on over the years, we ran into one another at venues, parks and the like as we both went about photographing our couples. When Kate got engaged to Lee, she reached out to me to be her photographer, and I cold not have been more flattered! Being the photographer who photographs other photographer’s weddings is a true Read More

One of my favorite things about living in Connecticut is its proximity to some pretty amazing locations! We have New York City, Boston, Newport, Vermont, The Hudson River Valley and one of my favorite places: the island of Martha’s Vineyard! Once you step foot off the ferry it’s like you are transported to another place and time… add to this the most loving and amazing couple and just hit me over the head with a frying pan I am done! Sarah + Beth are two of the most happy and roll with it people I have met- which Read More

What a WEDDING!!!  Our day was absolutely filled to the brim with such love and light and happiness from the moment we showed up to literally the moment we left! From every single detail thought out and taken care of by the lovely ladies Diana + Libby of Jubilee Events, to the literal send off with a bang (courtesy of some family friends!) Read More

When I got the request to photograph Allie + Chris’ wedding this spring I was ecstatic! Just last summer I had the absolute pleasure to photograph Allie’s sister Kristen’s wedding at the Castle Hill Inn in Newport (you can see their full gorgeous wedding post HERE) and got to know their family really well over both of their wedding planning periods! Allie and Chris’s wedding at the Harold Pratt House in New York City was the definition of pure city elegance! They got ready at the downright gorgeous Loews Hotel in Manhattan, what a stunning place for a bride Read More

southport engagement session with carla ten eyck

Amanda + Joe and I spent a sparkly and sunny and just about perfect late afternoon together in Southport for their engagement session… we poked around corners and streets and chased the light and laughed and created some magical portraits full of laughter and their cuteness! There are many charming seaside towns along the Connecticut shoreline and Southport is one of my favorite ones to spend time photographing in!  I love the feel of the seaside without being just about the beach… And did I mention there was snuggling? So much snuggling! Never enough snuggling! All of the snuggling! There Read More

twenty year anniversary session with one of my first wedding clients

When I was but a wee lass back in 1996 and had just graduated from RIT and was studying photojournalism with the high hopes of working for a newspaper when I graduated. Wedding photography was not even on my radar. Wait. Strike that. Reverse it! .. As Willy Wonka Would say! It was on my radar but not very highly regarded. In fact, I do believe that you would be ridiculed if you ever even uttered the words ‘wedding’ and ‘photographer’ in the same sentence! So to say this was not a dream job of mine way back when Read More
