Eyes up, heart open

Carla Ten Eyck

Blog

My most important job as your  photographer is to tell the story of your wedding day while making you and your family and friends comfortable.

I believe the more comfortable you are, the better your pictures will be.

My typical client loves their family + friends over anything. Always, always. They value time spent together, and are able to appreciate the quieter moments in their relationships, that strung together, share a story of deep love.

They appreciate beautiful photography, art and design. Someone who lets me do what I do best, and trusts my many years of experience in the industry. Whether you are the most camera-shy person or the biggest ham, there is no cookie-cutter approach to every client.

I will get you comfortable in a way that is best for you.

Here you can view my most recent weddings, events and other fun sessions. Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable, I have been happily blogging since 2006, so there is all of the content to do a deep dive and see if I am the right fit for you and your event.

I pride myself on being a welcoming + inclusive photographer + human being and embrace everyone. I am so happy you are here to view my work, stay as long as you’d like and please feel free to leave a comment or share any posts! XO Carla Ten Eyck

Styled Shoot at Lonesome Valley in Cashiers, North Carolina | Part Two

Welcome back for the second installment of this mountain luxury styled shoot at Lonesome Valley Resort in Cashiers, North Carolina! So I mentioned in my previous blog post about the first location we worked in at the little stream and waterfall (you can read that post HERE) that there was a boat house, and indeed there was! The first thing I saw when scouting the resort for new and different locations to work in was this swim platform. It called my name long and low and it echoed across the valley and I had no choice but to heed Read More

Styled Shoot at Lonesome Valley in Cashiers, North Carolina | Part One

Three times a year I attend and photograph at the esteemed Engage Luxury Wedding and Business Summits, held at luxury resorts all over the world! The last one I attended was at The Kimpton Seafire Resort on Grand Cayman, and it was simply amazing! The time before it was on Cayman at The Ritz Carlton and it was there that I had the opportunity to meet Sarah Jennings from Lonesome Valley in Cashiers North Carolina. She raved about her mountain property and encouraged us to come visit. So, being the doer that I am, I set the wheels in Read More

Autumn Wedding | The Bee and Thistle Inn with Carla Ten Eyck

So often people say they love to discover new places and people and things, and while I couldn’t agree more, there is something romantic and challenging about rediscovering new spots in familiar places! Take Erin and Chris’ wedding at the Bee and Thistle Inn in Old Lyme CT. I have photographed intimate weddings here for a while now, and while it is no longer a ‘new’ space for me, I get super excited when I book a wedding or event there with the Bee and Thistle Team! I know the grounds, the nooks within the Inn really well, at Read More

New Haven Engagement Session with Carla Ten Eyck

When a client hires me to photograph their Engagement session, I normally stress the fact that it’s not the best plan to make their session be about a treasure hunt of locations that you just tick off a long list. We all have locations as a couple that have levels of meaning for us, which is normal and wonderful, right? But when it comes to your engagement session the main reason we do them is to see what your chemistry is like in front of my camera, and also with me! During our pre-booking meeting when we are both Read More

Harkness Wedding & Jubilee Events | Carla Ten Eyck

Sara and Mike’s romantic fall  Harkness Wedding on the Connecticut shoreline at Harkness Memorial Park was so much fun to photograph! They had a massive wedding party, and the mix and match approach with the bridesmaids dresses all in that sparkly champagne color left me feeling all excited- yes, color can do that to me! Well, maybe it’s the sparkles and glitter that sends me into orbit, let’s be honest! Add to this already romantic feeling the incomparable Jane from Just for You Florals and her full, lush designs; the cake? Oh my God the CAKE!! But a Dream Read More

Weekapaug Inn| Engagement Session | Carla Ten Eyck

Paige and Geoff invited me to Paige’s Grandparents beach house in Rhode Island to spend the afternoon for their Engagement Session, and I happily obliged! We started our session at one of their favorite places, The Weekapaug Inn, and if you haven’t been before I highly recommend making the trip there to see for yourself! It’s nestled right on the water and run by the same folks who run The Ocean House, one of my very favorite places in the universe to go and enjoy the spa for the day or the beach and the food? ooohhhmmmyyggoooddd so good! Autumn Elizabeth Park Engagement Session

Spending the afternoon with Courtney and Mike in my favorite park Elizabeth Park was, dare I say, a walk in the park! You snort laughed, I heard you! It’s always a fun challenge to photograph my couples or families in the Elizabeth Park that I grew up going to, since I have been seeing it with the same eyes ever since I was a little girl. The challenge is in seeing this park, my Elizabeth Park, with fresh, new eyes. Every couple I bring here brings something new and different to our session, so I let that guide me, Read More

Acqua Blue, St. John an Intimate Party Island Style Wedding and Carla Ten Eyck

Last June I took a trip down to my very favorite Caribbean Island- and I have been to sooooo many of them –Acqua Blue, St. John! One of my very favorite things about St. John is how unspoiled it is, lots of twisty, windy roads, and I love the quirky stickers people put up on all of the stop signs everywhere! I have been lucky enough to have gone down there quite a bit, thanks to my good friend who feels way more like family, Mary. I met Mary at the Engage Luxury Wedding Business Summit a while back Read More

berkshires wedding by carla ten eyck

So Spring is here and what comes with that for many wedding photographers is the whole Spring Cleaning thing! We update our websites, create new content for the year, it’s fun! While cleaning my backend (insert laughter here) I found that I never actually posted this amazing wedding I photographed in the Berkshires on my blog! Foolish, silly girl! This sweet couple, Miss Annie + Sir Osa have actually been happily married for some time now, and have two beautiful boys! Can we say delayed reaction? So despite it being so long ago, I just loved loved loved this wedding so Read More
