good ol’ Rochester
This Monday brought me to my old stomping grounds, home of Rochester Institute of Technology, DiBella’s and the one and only Nick Tahou’s Garbage Plate. It’s amazing. And gross. And has the word ‘garbage’ in it. And I love it!!
One of my very favorite memories while at RIT was finding this amazing and scary abandoned place -I am not going to tell you where for fear of being arrested later for trespassing so don’t ask me!!- that I went to first with my frineds Andy and Sandy, yes, I know. And Sandy totally drove a crazy van and had long hair and was such a character! But we went up there and this place was nuts! And super scary. Every scary movie ever made comes to mind when you are there!!
So then I went back! This time with Gus and Chris Wideawake and photographed it! Still in my RIT days, still kinda dumb, but I couldn’t help myself it was THAT amazing and beautiful.
So what do I do now? I bring Tammy Swales with me! And it was like it was frozen in time, I swear.

The textures alone were so super amazing, I can’t even tell you

And the light. THE LIGHT!!! was amazing and delicious if I could eat it I would have

this was the world’s SCARIEST VIEW. IN THE WORLD! Scaaaarrryyyy!!! You can’t see what’s at the end of the hall!!!!! ANd it’s dead quiet. Except for the water drip dropping and our scared breathing!!!

See? Swales was almost in TEARS she was so scared!!!!

Of all the graffiti in the world to write. Honestly.

This was actually on my door growing up. I had 8 siblings, come on!!

In addition to going all that way to speak at the Central NY PUG on Tuesday I met up with Rochester’s finest. and I am sadly not talking about their police department!
I speak of Erich Camping! Who is my good friend from RIT- Schmartin’s total stunt double!!!!! COME ON!!

My old friend Tom Flint of the Roch-cha-cha! We met four years ago at WPPI and have been buddies ever since!

The woman, the myth, the legend! TAMMY SWALES and her super sweet beau, Gary!

Honestly I felt like I was back in my college days with this group of rowdy folk! And stop trying to blame it all on my guys, for real!
My stomach still hurts not from the garbage plate but from laughing so hard with all of you, I miss you all already WAY too much!!
Big super special shout out to our hosts from the PUG Beth and Alice Patterson in Baldwinsville NY! I can’t wait to come back and laugh and hang out some more and raid your house!!

Oh man I would love to see what that building looked like in its day! LOVE the textures!
What an awesome find – definitely a cool old building. Hope you a a blast in Rochester!
What a great find. I love and am equally as scared of abandoned locations.

I know right? weezer sucks??? really? how about ‘your graffiti skills suck!’
Weezer Sucks. HILARIOUS… would have loved to have seen this place in it’s heyday. Beautiful crusty beautifulness.
