The last installment of our Samar and Shane wedding extravaganza took place at the breathtaking Lyndhurst Estate in Hudson NY. What a spectacular place for a wedding! We had such perfect weather the entire weekend and Monday was no exception. There was no formal ceremony- but there were many new things to see: new Monday wedding clothes, of course!! And all new details for us to photograph…. all so tasteful and beautiful.

Samar and Shane, Mike and I went off to photograph some portraits before they headed to the cocktail hour. The light was just perfect…yet again! And Samar was too!

His blue eyes were amazing, and practically jumped out at me!

The details of Samar’s outfit were stunning and so intricate

As soon as I saw this, I just knew I had to rock it. Yes, it is a gazebo. And I LOVE this shot! Couldn’t they be from 1933? 

One of the coolest things to shoot in, by far…. a conservatory with no glass!

I love the light in this shot as well….

I guess I am really enjoying making people look like they are stepping out of the past or something!! Timeless CITY!!

There were some special dance performances that night, so I decided to get tricky and set my flash on the floor across from me, and had some old fashioned drag shutter FUN

After their performance, the dancers brought people out to dance- here Samar’s Father got pulled out, and he was having a grand time

I shot this through the tent wall, and there was just something about it that I was enjoying!!

And there you have it! Samar and Shane and family: thank you all for trusting us with your special events, it was so much fun! I really look forward to seeing you all again someday soon!

Continuing our three day shooting festivities was our Saturday wedding at the fabulous Oak Hill Estate in Hudson NY. Tammy Baldwin from Charmed Places event planning ran the day’s events as smoothly as possible, and everything went off without a hitch. Linda Baldwin of Linda Baldwin Flowers and Decor  did another amazing job on Saturday as well!! There were even some awesome little spontaneous surprises thrown in for us that we were all excited about and can’t wait to show you!

But first, the details. Samar’s shoes were so simple and pretty and silver!! I shot this in the little loft area of the cabin that she and her ladies were getting ready at…

Samar’s makeup was perfect- Heather Canavan rocked the house!

The activity was a constant all day as everyone bustled around to get ready in time

Samar’s Mom’s best friend was the official sari person and got all of the ladies looking great

Samar and Shane decided to do a first look before their ceremony…. which I love!! I love this shot of Samar as she looks at Shane

The light here was just great- and Samar? Well, she is just gorgeous!!

After they both got to the altar, Shane spontaneously kissed Samar’s hand- there is just something so romantic and gentlemanly about this

And THIS is what the petals were for!! My favorite first kiss shot, by FAR!

Instead of a recessional, there was a hug fest where everyone, well, hugged! Here Shane hugs Samar’s Father, who I just loved to pieces!

These were ready before the ceremony for guests to stay cool with

The location was just….. ahhhhhhh…. Oak Hill is gorgeous!

The food was a work of art in and of itself. Oliver Kita did it up in style

Again, the details? Even the salt and pepper bowls were adorable and beautifully presented. Lily of the valley? More people need to use them, they are SO delicate and pretty!!!

The tent was beautiful

Gupreet Chana was AMAZING!!! I was almost too enthralled to even take pictures- which is precisely why I am featuring Mike’s shot here…! His music was magic. 

I had fun photographing the dancing- the lighting and energy in the tent was perfect! And Katie’s 24-70 2.8 that I was using was fun as well- it’s the perfect dance floor lens!

Samar’s cousin Natasha was fun to photograph on the dance floor- add to that Gupreet and his drum? And it was CRAZY!!!

How many of you have seen a DOG dance with a bride and groom on the dance floor? AND that the bride is HOLDING??? My favorite detail of the day, it pretty much sums up Samar and Shane!

Friday was the start of one of the most incredible events I have photographed to date: a three day Pakistani + Irish wedding at the Oak Hill estate in the Hudson River Valley. Do I honestly need to elaborate?? Oh but I will!! There was COLOR to spare, emotional, wonderful, loving people- and details like I have never seen before. 

The first event we shot I brought along Mike, my steady second shooter and Katie and Graham, my associate photographers to cover Samar and Shane’s wedding(s). Yes, it was big enough to warrant FOUR photographers!! I can’t say enough about the awesome team that I am apart of: they hustled, they shot, we laughed our selves silly and shared in such an amazing experience together!! I couldn’t have asked for better people to be with me. As such- I am showcasing not only my work but a sampling of our collective vision from the day- and am pointing out who shot what- it’s important for me to know how everyone sees. I also wanted to show everyone that reads this, how wonderfully all of our work fits together!!

We started off in the evening in the barn, where  Mehndi was taking place. This was where there would be singing and dancing and lots and lots of wonderful traditions taking place. Let me illustrate with some images:

This is what we walked in to! We all had to basically pick our jaws up off the floor we were so overwhelmed with color. And fabric! Yards and yards of it!! I wanted to wrap myself up in it, or eat it it was so pretty. Mike caught a cool angle of the tapestry hanging from the bannister of the barn and I rocked my 14-24 to show what the upper floor of the whole barn looked like, pre-party

Textures, and color and ambiance to spare… now this is what I am TALKING about!!

Tammy Baldwin of Charmed Places was the event planner for the Friday and Saturday events- she is known for her super cool signs. She was absolutely awesome to work with! 

Maybe I should have done a post just on the details!! There were just so many awesome ones, I can’t  leave any out! This was my shot on the left and Mike’s on the right

Just when you think it can’t get any better? The food rolls in!! These were all shot by Katie and Graham, who were on full detail alert!

And so the ladies arrive, and hide from view in one of the carriage houses on the property, but they can’t resist checking out what’s going on 

I stayed with Samar and Mike was with Shane, and these were the portraits we got right before the Friday ceremony began. They both have such a timeless look to them, it’s like they stepped right out of 1945

Right down to her tippy toes, Samar rocked my world with color and sparkles

One of the highlights for us, especially Mr. Dog Man, Mike- was meeting their gentle soul of a dog, Cyrus. I LOVED HIM. Like, I want a pup just like him. And I don’t want any animals!! But I would totally take Cyrus, any day of the week! Look at his little upside down smile!! And he is wearing a scarf. I have a bizarre soft spot for dogs in clothes. This is Mike’s shot

Samar’s bridesmaids were like, professional brides maids. They should teach a  class on HOW to be a bridesmaid! They were so lovely to work with all weekend, and so sweet to Samar and to each other.

Mike grabbed this shot of the cloth that would be held over Shane’s head as he made his way to the barn, escorted by his family and groomsmen.

Another Mike shot: Shane was led by a drummer, which was very dramatic and I loved every minute of it!

Once Shane was in the barn, Samar made her way over. Katie grabbed this shot of Samar being escorted in by her maid of honor and family

Another Katie Slater shot: I love the motion in this shot, it really gives you a feel for how it felt to be there, engulfed in color, and people

Samar and Shane sat in this swing for a few hours and had blessing upon blessing bestowed upon them by family and friends.

Here Samar’s Mom chooses something to feed Shane and wish him well in his marriage

This is the tray that everyone who blesses them chooses from, it is filled with all kinds of goodies

Teasing plays a big part in this particular ritual- here a family member teases Shane with her treat- gives it to him and then takes it away like 5 times- it was funny to watch!

Another very cool tradition was Shane being held for ransom of sorts by his pinky by one of Samar’s brides maids- she was trying to get the most amount of money out of Shane’s groomsmen so that he would be released… Here is a succession of shots- his pinky being grabbed: then it was dipped in something, and finally- Graham’s shot of the cash being handed over!!

Mike caught the glitter right in mid air after the bridesmaids finished their dance performance

Carla placed eigth in the Bridal Party category of the international wedding photo competition hosted by the WPJA and Brides.com for the Fall of 2008.

Carla placed first in the Reception category in Wedcomp’s first international wedding photography competition for the Fall of 2008! She had a number of other images place in the same competition as well.

Carla Ten Eyck Photography was chosen as Asuka Books’ very first Studio Spotlight AND the September 2007 Book of the Month for her book titled: ‘See Real Women: Really See Women’ that she photographed and designed to showcase the body of work that she created for her gallery show in October 2007.

Carla received a grant to create the work from the Roberts foundation in Connecticut. She asks all women how they see themselves as their most beautiful and then figures out the best way to photograph their answer.

Carla now hosts a regular workshop at her studio on the first Tuesday of every month called Ten Eyck Tuesdays. For more info click on the ‘workshop’ tab above!
